Ottawa (VNA) – The Association of Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs (AOVE) in Canada held its second congress in Toronto, Canada, on November 3.
AOVE Chairman Pham Van Thanh reviewed the association’s achievements over the past two years, saying that it has fulfilled its role as a bridge between Vietnamese and Canadian enterprises.
The association, which gathers around 100 businesspeople from Toronto, Vancourver, Montreal, Edmonton and Quebech, has helped Vietnamese students to study in Canada and encouraged the Vietnamese community to support their compatriots in Viet Nam whenever natural disasters occur. Recently, it raised over 8,000 Canadian dollars for families of victims of the Can Tho Bridge collapse and floods in central provinces.
In the 2008-2009 term, the association will make more efforts to promote Vietnamese-made products in Canada and encourage enterprises to invest in Viet Nam, Thanh revealed.
The congress, also attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada Nguyen Duc Hung and Commercial Counselor Pham Ngoc Canh, decided to rename the AOVE as the Association of Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs and Experts in Canada and elected a new 11-member board.-Enditem
