Ha Noi (VNA)- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked his ministers to hold responsibility for Ha Noi-related affairs during a working session between the cabinet and the capital city leadership on December 1.
The Government leader said cabinet members should spend time on regular basis with the capital administration to help the city fulfill its targets, first of all to finalise its development master plan as well as the regional planning on the industrialization and modernization stage.
He entrusted his deputy Hoang Trung Hai and Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc to help the city harmonise the two planning schemes to have them submitted to the Government soon for approval.
The Ministry of Transport was assigned with a task to help the city solve traffic jams and gradually finalise the municipal transport planning scheme.
This should be considered a key and urgent task of Ha Noi itself and the Government as a whole, the Prime Minister emphasized.
He concluded by urging the capital administration to gear towards an economy of services and hi-tech industries.
In the working session, municipal mayor Nguyen The Thao reported that the Ha Noi economy in 2007 continued with drastic growth, reaching a 10 year high at an estimated 12.1 percent.
However, he admitted that its economy is yet of high quality or competitiveness and the education and human resources works have not yet met market demands.
The administrative reforms and State governance, especially in construction planning, remain poor, Thao acknowledged.
He raised a five-point proposal for the Government to consider, including the expansion of Ha Noi borders, a programme for its millennial celebrations, urban management and development on a sustainable way, upgrading the Ha Noi ordinance into a law and holding quarterly review meetings with the cabinet. --Enditem
