RoK declares oil-hit area disaster zone

Seoul (VNA) – The Republic of Korea (RoK) on Dec. 11 declared a disaster zone in the west coast region hit by the country’s worst oil spill.

Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs Park Myung-jae said the zone covers parts of two cities and of four counties, including Taean, which is 110km southwest of Seoul .

The Korean Coast Guard continued its cleanup efforts, mobilising about 220 ships, five helicopters, and some 13,000 soldiers, police and civilian volunteers.

Authorities will provide state subsidies and other financial support as well as tax cuts and medical services, the minister said.-Enditem
