DPRK makes first repayment of RoK's assistance

Seoul (VNA) – A ship carrying 500 tonnes of zinc worth 1.2 million USD of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) arrived at Republic of Korea (RoK)’s western port city of Incheon on Dec. 14. "The shipment is the first repayment by the DPRK to the RoK since the government began providing economic and humanitarian assistance in loans," the RoK Unification Ministry said. The RoK agreed earlier this year to provide 80 million USD worth of raw materials for DPRK’s light industries. Pyongyang will repay with its abundant natural resources and is supposed to pay back 3 percent or 2.4 million USD before the end of the year. Talks between the two Koreas are under way to agree the type and amount of a second shipment of minerals.-Enditem
