Ha Noi (VNA) – The PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) plans to pour 2 billion USD in a hydroelectric plant in Luang Prabang province in Laos, according to the company’s director general Le Hong Tinh.
With a designed capacity of 1,410 MW, the Luang Prabang plant is expected to generate between 7-8 billion KWh of electricity per year.
Feasibility study for the project, which is invested in the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT), is currently underway and is scheduled for completion in mid April, 2008.
The plant is slated for operation in 2014 and part of its electricity output will be sold to Viet Nam .
Apart from the Luang Prabang project, the PV Power, an affiliate of the Viet Nam National Oil and Gas Group, has been investing in the construction of combined circle gas turbin power plants in the southernmost province of Ca Mau and southern Dong Nai province.
The corporation is also conducting feasibility study on hydroelectric plants of Nam Chien, Dac Dring, Xekaman 1, 3 and 4.-Enditem
