Hai Phong (VNA) - The Bach Dang Shipyard in the northern port city of Hai Phong on December 24 handed over a 22,500 tonne freighter to its customer Vinalines.
The ship, 153.2 m long, 26 m wide and 13.75 m high, was designed by the Vinakita, a joint-venture between Vinashin and Kitada of Japan. Its chief engine, with a capacity of 6,230 kW, was also a Japanese-made product.
The VINALINES UNITY freighter, capable of moving at 14.5 miles per hour, was among a series of 22,500 tonne ships being built at the Bach Dang shipyard, which recorded a revenue of 1,638 billion VND in 2007 and a growth rate of 30 percent annually.--Enditem
