Seminar meets on Mau Than Uprising

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – A seminar entitled The General Offensive and Uprising of Mau Than Spring 1968, held by the Ministry of National Defence and the central province of Thua Thien-Hue Party’s Committee, successfully ended on Jan. 10 in Hue City . Attending the seminar were more than 300 participants including leaders of the Party and the State, the Ministry of National Defence, military officers, historical witnesses and scientists. Participants presented nearly 120 speeches, which analysed circumstances which led to a strategic decision by the Party Central Committee’s Politburo and the Military Commission of the Party Central Committee to launch the General Offensive and Uprising. They concluded that it had forced the US to temporarily stop bombing Northern Viet Nam and begin negotiations. Ending the seminar, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Trung Kien, a member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defence, affirmed that the General Offensive and Uprising in Spring 1968 had reversed the enemy’s strategic status, marking a turning point in the war and forcing the US to halt their destructive war against Northern Viet Nam and negotiate in Paris. The Offensive demonstrated the Vietnamese people’s will and strength and the creativeness and talent of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh in directing their people during the war.-Enditem
