Viet Nam still largest pepper exporter in 2008

17/01/2008 -- 7:45 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – According to the Viet Nam Pepper Association, the country will continue to be the world largest pepper exporter this year.

The prediction is based on the association’s survey which showed that Central Highlands Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces are able to give larger amount of pepper.

It’s expected that the country’s total pepper output will be 90,000-100,000 tonnes this year.

Last year, pepper sector posted a record export value of 268 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 29 percent despite a 42 percent fall in volume.

Pepper price in the world markets is still going up early this year as processors keep buying in raw material.-Enditem
