Dow Jones to list Viet Nam index

19/01/2008 -- 8:35 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – Dow Jones Indexes’ spokeswoman Sybille Reitz said on January 18 the company was looking into incorporating Viet Nam into its global listing of stock indexes.

“ Viet Nam is on our priority list for market expansion,” Reitz said during a visit to Viet Nam .

On January 17 and 18, Reitz visited the offices of Dau Tu (Investment) and Viet Nam News newspapers.

International investors are looking to diversify their investment portfolios by investing in emerging markets such as Viet Nam . Therefore, Dow Jones Indexes is considering more active participation in the market, she said.

Dow Jones, a subsidiary of News Corp, offers 130,000 equity indexes, as well as fixed-income, alternative and portfolio indexes, from 58 countries.

The indexes are classified by sector, such as industrials, transportation and utilities.

The stocks are also grouped into “growth” stocks and “value” stocks: Growth stocks usually demonstrate higher growth and cash flow and are more likely to reinvest profits than pay dividends. Value stocks, on the other hand, tend to have relatively low price-to-earnings and price-to-book ratios and are more apt to pay dividends.

Based in the US , Dow Jones Indexes has offices in China , Hong Kong and Singapore.-Enditem
