Ha Noi (VNA) – Co Loa Festival, which is held annually from the 6 th to the 16 th day of the first lunar month, opened at Co Loa commune, Ha Noi’s Dong Anh outlying district, on February 12.
Earlier, thousands of local people and visitors took part in an incense offering ceremony in memory of King An Duong Vuong, who built the Co Loa Citadel to fight foreign invaders.
The Co Loa Festival has many fun activities such as human chess, wrestling, swings, rope climbing, card playing, and Cheo and Tuong singing.
The same day, the Soc Temple festival, one of two festivals commemorating the life of the Giong Genius (the other is the Giong Festival) was organised in Phu Linh commune, Soc Son district in Ha Noi’s suburbs. This Hung King-era mythological hero is said to have, at three years old, fought off foreign invaders with bamboo trees. After his victory, he flew to the heavens. This celebration is held at his takeoff point, Phu Linh commune. The festival includes a bathing of the genie’s statue, traditional games and a bamboo flower procession celebrating the hero’s weapon of choice. Meanwhile, ethnic people in northern mountainous Ha Giang province enthusiastically took part in “Long Tong” (Going to the Field) Festival, a traditional spring festival of the Tay and Nung ethnic people.
Many people of the Mong, Dao, La Chi and other ethnic groups joined the Tay and Nung in traditional games during the festival.-Enditem
