ADB capital helps Tuyen Quang tea industry

Tuyen Quang (VNA) – Tea makers in mountainous Tuyen Quang province for the last six years have cultivated on an additional 550 ha including 250 ha for special tea varieties thanks to loans worth 88 billion VND from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The ADB-funded tea development project which was deployed from 2002 to 2007 aims to raise tea quality, improve impoverished soil, protect environment and increase tea makers’ income.

The project’s beneficiaries include non-state tea farmers and cooperatives in Yen Son, Son Duong and Ham Yen districts of northern Tuyen Quang province.

The six years project provided 15,000 farmers, including 4,000 ethnic minority people with cultivating skills and improve productivity. Tea makers were also given updated information of tea trading business on domestic and foreign markets.

Tuyen Quang province now grows 7,100 ha of tea, producing over 43,000 tonnes of material and 7,700 tonnes of processed tea in 2007.-Enditem
