22/02/2008 -- 6:13 PM

New York (VNA) – Viet Nam has called on parties concerned to strengthen their co-ordination to resolve the crisis between Eritrea and t he UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea , known as UNMEE.

Ambassador Hoang Chi Trung, Deputy Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the UN, made the appeal at the Security Council meeting in New York on February 21 to discuss the situation.

The problem between the two sides occurred after Eritrea cut off fuel supplies to the mission and obstruct a planned evacuation of UN personnel.

Trung called on Eritrea to fully observe the Security Council’s Resolution 1978 and to cooperate with the UNMEE and the UN to seek solutions for the problem.

The ambassador cited the conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia as the original reason behind the existing crisis between the UNMEE and Eritrea .

He said Eritrea and Ethiopia should quickly resume their peace talks and cooperate with the UN to solve the current crisis and ensure safety for UN mission employees.-Enditem
