Hai Phong (VNA) – Finland will continue to help Viet Nam improve urban infrastructure, thus better the living conditions for people in cities, said Finnish President Tarja Halonen.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of a drainage and sanitation project in Minh Duc town in northern Hai Phong city’s Thuy Nguyen district on February 23, President Halonen said she was pleased at the effective use of Finland’s official development assistance (ODA) capital in Viet Nam, including Hai Phong city.
Finland has provided non-refundable aid to a 12 billion VND (750,000 USD) project to improve waste water drainage and sanitation in Hai Phong.
Earlier, a Finnish-funded water supply project in the Design-Build-Lease (DBL) form, has been put into use in Minh Duc town, benefiting 10,000 local residents.
Later, President Halonen and her entourage called at the Pha Rung Shipyard, Viet Nam’s largest sea ship repairing factory built with Finland’s aid.
On the same day, the Finish delegation also visited the northeastern province of Quang Ninh.-Enditem
