Footwear export revenues up 25.2 percent

27/02/2008 -- 5:56 PM

Ha Noi (VNA)- Exports in footwear have earned the country 300 million USD in February, bringing the export revenues in the first two months of 2008 to 769 million USD, a 25.2 percent rise year on year.

The Viet Nam Leather and Shoe Association said despite the gain, the industry is struggling against shortages of labour, materials and export markets.

Businesses are facing a fierce competition against rivals in the region, especially China , said the association.

The watchdog said the industry is gearing production towards high-grade footwear and boost trade promotion.

Businesses should develop new markets of great potential such as the US , Japan , Taiwan and Eastern Europe rather just focusing on the EU, said economists.--Enditem
