First foreigner receives Honourary Doctor of Laws title

Ha Noi (VNA) – The Ha Noi Law University on February 27 presented the title of Honourary Doctor of Laws to Udo Corts, Minister of Sciences and Arts of Germany’s Hessen State , the first ever for a foreigner.

The title was in recognition of his contributions to the two countries’ cooperation in education and training, particularly in laws.

The minister has helped to accelerate cooperation programmes between Viet Nam and Germany , including a programme to train Vietnamese PhD degree holders in Germany . Under the programme, Hessen state’s universities begin receiving 85 Vietnamese students as from this year.

Minister Udo Corts also actively supported the establishment of the Germany-Viet Nam University (GVU), which will start enrolling students in the 2008-09 school year.

Minister Udo Corts, who used to be a law student, has pledged to give scholarships for law students as well as assistance to programmes to improve German language for law teachers.-Enditem
