Viet Nam rises to third place at table tennis event

28/02/2008 -- 12:13 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – Viet Nam defeated Indonesia 3-1 at the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Guangzhou, China, on February 26, rising to the third place in its group behind Portugal and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

It was sweet revenge for Viet Nam who controversially lost to Indonesia in the Southeast Asia Games in Nakhorn Rachasima , Thailand , last December.

The win means Viet Nam is now just one point behind second-placed DPRK – who beat Viet Nam 3-0 on February 25. Viet Nam is on six points, level with Turkey , who beat the US 3-1 on February 26, Portugal , who beat the DPRK 3-2 on February 26, is topping the group on eight points.

Indonesia languish at the bottom of the group in last place.

Viet Nam will play the US next in the last group match.

The winning team from each group will advance to the next round of the week-long event, which opened on February 24 and has attracted more than 700 paddlers from 146 countries.-Enditem
