Hai Phong to crack down on hooliganism

28/02/2008 -- 12:13 PM

Hai Phong (VNA) – Authorities of the northern city of Hai Phong are to step up security at the local foot ball fans club in a bid to contain growing crowd violence during recent games.

Hai Phong sports leaders said they would, with the support of the police, frisk fans for smuggled fireworks and keep records on habitual hooligans who would be banned from attending games.

The club added that it also intended to introduce other more long-term measures to combat the problem of crowd violence.

Last week, Hai Phong fans went on the rampage throwing firecrackers during a National Cup match against Song Lam Nghe An at a neutral venue in Nam Dinh province.

There was also trouble during a V-League home match at the Lach Tray Stadium against Southern Steel-Sai Gon Port last month.-Enditem
