Shipping fair weighs anchor

28/02/2008 -- 3:45 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - Viet Nam’s largest shipping exhibition, Vietship, will be held in Ha Noi next month and is expected to attract 400 of the world’s leading firms and hundreds of millions of US dollars worth of deals, organisers said on February 27.

The fair, International Exhibition on Shipbuilding, Marine Technology and Transportation (Vietship), hopes to help domestic and foreign firms expand their business and showcase their latest products and services.

“We hope the show will help the domestic shipbuilding industry turn themselves from assemblers to manufactures,” said Nguyen Quoc Anh, business director of Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin), organiser of the fair.

Anh said Vietship will also help develop the local ailing ancillaries industry as the domestic shipbuilders target to raise the local content to 65 per cent in 2010.

Organisers said they will establish a business transaction venue at the event which will enable participating firms to meet and negotiate business deals.

“Hundreds of millions of US dollars worth of contracts between local and foreign firms are expected to be signed at the event,” Anh said.- Enditem
