Trade with Japan likely to reach 15 billion USD

Tokyo (VNA) - Bilateral trade between Viet Nam and Japan is expected to hit 15 billion USD by 2010, a senior trade expert said.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Trade Promotion Department Head Do Thang Hai told Viet Nam News Agency of the target after attending a two-day meeting of the Directorate of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) – Japan Centre (AJC) held in Tokyo on February 26-27.

Hai said the target is within reach due to strong potential in Japan ’s markets in trade, investment and tourism.

Viet Nam is also marketing new products, such as plastic, electric cabling and construction materials, into Japan along with a number of traditional products such as seafood, fine art and handicrafts.

Last year, Japanese businesses launched a new method of trade promotion in Viet Nam . They held exhibitions on products they are interested in buying, mostly auto and electronic parts, as a way to assist Viet Nam boost its fledgling supportive industries.

The Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) is expected to hold talks with the Trade Promotion Department of Viet Nam soon to reach detailed plans.-Enditem
