Businesses told to promote marketing

28/02/2008 -- 6:44 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – Vietnamese trade counsellors have agreed that a key task for businesses is to promote marketing and diversify products in order to boost exports in 2008 and beyond.

Vietnamese trade counsellors in foreign countries met in Ha Noi on February 28 with domestic entrepreneurs from the northern region to give analysis on overseas markets and their demands.

According to trade counsellor to Japan Vu Van Trung, 2008 promises favourable market conditions for domestic exporters as the two countries develop a strategic partnership.

He said that when Viet Nam became a World Trade Organisation (WTO) member, Japan began a second wave of investment in the country and Vietnamese goods still keep a firm foothold in the Japanese market.

Trung also pointed out several barriers for domestic exporters, including high demands of food safety quality, particularly for agro-forestry-fisheries products and consumer goods.

He recommended businesses to ensure the food quality, maintain potential products such as textile and garments, wood and aquatic products, and develop new items.

Trade counsellor to the US Ngo Van Thoan suggested Vietnamese businesses market and diversify their products to meet various tastes of US consumers.

He also said there was a need for concrete strategies in developing human resources and promoting their image in foreign countries, as well as making a close alliance between businesses.

According to Thoan , Viet Nam recorded the highest growth rate in exports to the US and is in the 31st position in turnover, representing a 0.56 percent rate of the total import turnover of the US in 2007.

Viet Nam expects to earn 13 billion USD in exports to the US in 2008.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien acknowledged the trade counsellors’ assistance to domestic businesses to increase exports and seek partners.

He also asked the counsellors to uphold their roles to boost trade between Viet Nam and other countries to help bring the export turnover this year to 58 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 22 percent.-Enditem
