Prime Minister seeks further ties with Germany

29/02/2008 -- 6:19 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung says Viet Nam and Germany need to increase trade cooperation to live up to their potential.

Meeting with German Deputy Prime Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on February 29, PM Dung said economic cooperation between the two countries has been growing steadily and sustainably.

Germany is now one of Viet Nam’s largest European partners with two-way trade value worth more than 3 billion USD.

The PM said he valued the German government’s cooperation in the construction of the Viet Nam-Germany University and an international-standard high school in Viet Nam .

The German Deputy Prime Minister, who is also Foreign Minister, said education and training, judiciary, and infrastructural construction are areas the two countries should focus on.

Touching upon economic issues, the German leader said Viet Nam has created favourable conditions for a healthy investment environment that has attracted more foreign businesses to invest.

He attributed the success to the Vietnamese government’s open foreign policies, economic incentives, and its fight against corruption.

He told his host that Viet Nam’s image and its investment environment have been promoted widely in Germany, especially to giant economic groups.-Enditem
