Australia, Viet Nam celebrate diplomatic ties

Ha Noi (VNA) – An Australian diplomat has affirmed her country’s special attachment to its cooperation with Viet Nam .

At the 35 th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Australia diplomatic ties held in Australia on February 29, Australian Foreign Affairs and Trade Deputy Secretary Gillian Bird said she was pleased by the speedy development of the two countries’ cooperation and hoped relations would be further developed.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Thanh Tan said the friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Australia has been continually developing in politics, economics, trade, culture, education, tourism, security and defence.

Two-way trade has risen dramatically over recent years, reaching 7 billion USD in 2007, the Vietnamese diplomat said.

Australia has so far invested more than 760 million USD in around 150 projects in Viet Nam . Its official development assistance (ODA) capital has considerably improved the country’s infrastructure and poverty reduction, he added.-Enditem
