Viet Nam's fine art travels to England

05/03/2008 -- 10:38 AM

Ha Noi (VNA) – Fine art from Viet Nam is drawing a bridge between different cultures at a new exhibition in London, the UK.

The show Hoi Nhap Dong Tay (Integration between West and East) is part of Vietnamese Cultural Days, a festival to honour Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s on-going visit to the UK. He arrived in London on March 4.

Among the well-known names contributing to the show are Bui Huu Hung, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Pham Luan and Pham An Hai. Each artist explores Vietnamese themes and styles with the backdrop of development and integration.

With oil on canvas, Binh depicts traditional images of lithe young Vietnamese women in traditional ao dai (long dress) or ballet dancers in training.

Lacquer painter Hung sets his Vietnamese beauties in the former royal city of Hue. Taking a different perspective, Luan hones in on the bustling, traffic-jammed streets of Ha Noi.

An exhibition of pottery from Bat Trang Village is also on display.

The exhibition opens on March 5 and runs till March 14 at the Exhibition House, Limkokwing University, London. It is organised in cooperation with Song Hong (Red River) Gallery and the IEC (International Educational Consultancy) Company.-Enditem
