10/03/2008 -- 9:43 PM

Dublin (VNA) – Ireland’s top law-makers expected Viet Nam and Ireland’s legislative bodies would increase delegation exchanges to share experiences in law making in order to boost cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries.

John O’Donoghue, Speaker of the Irish House of Representatives and Pat Moylan, Speaker of the Senate, also said at their meetings with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on March 10 that they supported stronger cooperation between the two countries.

The Vietnamese PM, who is on an official visit to Ireland starting on March 9, spoke highly of the positive development of Viet Nam-Ireland relations.

He thanked the Irish parliament and government for their decision to include Viet Nam in its priority list for OAD with committed aid of 120 million USD for the 2007-2010 period, which focuses on HIV/AIDS prevention and hunger alleviation and poverty reduction projects.

PM Dung said he hoped the Irish Senate will continue supporting further ODA provision for Viet Nam after 2010 as well as stronger cooperation in economic, trade, investment and education and training with Viet Nam .

In his speech at Ireland ’s largest university, the University College Dublin (UCD), PM Dung spoke highly of the effective cooperation between the UCD National Virus Reference Laboratory and the Viet Nam National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
