Berlin (VNA) – German media have reported Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to the country from March 6-9 as a runaway success.
Germany’s Economics and Technology Minister Michael Glos told the “Commerce” that PM Dung’s visit and his attendance at the Viet Nam-Germany Economic Dialogue Forum “marked an important step forwards for bilateral relations as well as economic cooperation between the two countries”.
The German Minister said Germany’s direct investment in Viet Nam, which was nineteenth among foreign investors in Viet Nam last year, doesn’t match the real potential of the two sides. However, the situation will be improved in the next few years if Viet Nam can keep its recent momentum of reforms, he stressed.
The “Financial Times” has reported that the PM’s visit, during which the two sides inked an agreement to build an 800-million-euro subway in Ho Chi Minh City, will create a good chance for Germany’s Siemens Corporation. The corporation will become a supplier for the project while providing metros, signal and control equipment, the paper added.
Meanwhile, the German government’s website quoted Chancellor Angela Merkel saying that PM Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit will contribute to strengthening the naturally good ties between the two countries.
She said that cooperation agreements in the fields of economics and education are among the most important results reached at the PM’s tour.
Other newspapers and websites, including “German Wave,” “New Germany,” “Berlinese,” and the German news agency (DPA) also made positive reports on the PM’s visit. –Enditem
