French organisation backs Vietnamese AO victims

11/03/2008 -- 11:53 AM

Paris (VNA) – The French Committee for the Van Canh Friendship Village has voiced their disappointment over the US Appeal Court’s verdict to dismiss Vietnamese Agent Orange (AO) victims’ claim against US chemical companies and called for worldwide support to the victims.

The committee said in a statement that the US court’s February 22 verdict is “unjust” and “un-understandable,” particularly when Monsanto, one of 37 US companies producing the toxic chemical defoliant for the US armed forces to spray in Viet Nam, has admitted harmful effects of the chemical on US war veterans and agreed to compensate them.

The French organisation said it supports Vietnamese AO victims to continue their lawsuit, and called organisations and individuals throughout the world to stay together in the fight for justice for the Vietnamese AO victims.

The French Committee for the Van Canh Friendship Village is one of oganisations in France which oppose the US court verdict.

Earlier, the France-Viet Nam Friendship Association sent an open letter showing its solidarity and support to the Vietnamese victims. The Collectif Dioxin Viet Nam is actively preparing for a large-scale campaign in France , aimed at backing the victims. Recently, the TF1 channel introduced to French television audience about harmful effects of the defoliant, especially its long-term impacts on the human and environment in Viet Nam. –Enditem
