WB helps improve medical services in northern provinces

14/03/2008 -- 8:32 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) - The World Bank’s Directorate has approved 60 million USD in credits to help the Vietnamese Government improve medical services in northern mountainous provinces.

In an announcement in Ha Noi on March 14, the WB said the credits will be taken from the International Development Association, a WB fund for low-income nations.

The 66 million USD project will provide further training to medical workers at provincial hospitals and build pilot models in seven northern mountainous provinces – Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Son La and Bac Can.

The project intends to provide basic medical facilities, upgrade medical clinics and improve hospital management.

It is also designed to provide financial assistance to implementing the Government’s Decision 139 to supply medical services to the poor.

The project is expected to be carried out under the management of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health in September 2008 and finish in February 2014.-Enditem
