Quang Ngai commemorates Son My massacre

Quang Ngai (VNA) – A ceremony was held in the central province of Quang Ngai on March 16 to commemorate the Son My massacre during which 504 civilians were killed by US soldiers on a morning 40 years ago.

Representatives from Vietnamese ministries and more than 2,000 local people were joined by delegates from the US , Japan and China , journalists from 15 foreign media organisations at the event.

Several US veterans were also present at the ceremony, including Larry Colburn, who rescued some civilians in the massacre and Mike Boehm, who has been attending the commemoration for 14 years.

On the occasion , the Japanese delegation presented gifts to pupils in Son My and the Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam donated 20 million VND to a local fund for education promotion.

On March 15, the provincial Buddhist Committee organised a requiem for the massacre’s 504 dead victims.-Enditem
