18/03/2008 -- 11:08 AM

Ha Noi (VNA) – The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and Microsoft on March 17 announced the implementation of a public private partnership agreement aimed at fostering information technology in Viet Nam .

The agreement - which was signed in May last year by MIC and Microsoft, and witnessed by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer – is the realisation of Microsoft’s commitment to assist Viet Nam ’s government in carrying out its information, communication technologies (ICT) policies.

“The agreement will play a critical role in accelerating the development of ICT in Viet Nam , especially in the context of globalisation,” said MCI’s deputy minister Nguyen Minh Hong.

According to the agreement, Microsoft will help Viet Nam build its knowledge economy by boosting the establishment of government and IT training programmes for more than 200 State workers via the Microsoft Certified Engineer (MCSE) programme.

Meanwhile, the world’s largest software developer will help Viet Nam’s leading ICT firms by providing them with intensive training courses, business consultancy and finance support, according to Microsoft Viet Nam’s director Christophe Desriac.

“We have been here for more than 10 years and believe that in the near future Viet Nam will be one of the leading ICT countries in Southeast Asia,” he said.-Enditem
