Viet Nam, Laos to further medical cooperation

Vientiane (VNA) – Health Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu and a delegation are in Laos to discuss health cooperation plans for 2008.

The discussions are focusing on direct cooperation between leading hospitals and medical centres of the two countries, as well as setting up a health science university in Vientiane .

On March 18 the health delegation, including ministry officials and leaders of hospitals and pharmaceuticals, held talks with the Lao Health Ministry headed by Minister Ponmek Dalaloy in Vientiane .

The two sides agreed to cooperate to produce vaccines for Laos and increase the number of Lao medical students in Viet Nam .

Laos will also send its medical workers to attend training courses at large hospitals in Viet Nam . More scholarships will also be given to Lao medical students to study in their neighbouring country.

On March 17, Minister Trieu presented the insignia “For People’s Health” to 12 Lao medical workers for their contribution to developing medical cooperation between the two countries.-Enditem
