PM urges labour safety, sanitation

Ha Noi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has issued an instruction on strengthening labour safety and hygiene.

Ha has decided that leaders of ministries, sectors and localities must be held responsible to the Government if labour accidents occur and result in serious consequences.

He asked the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to co-ordinate with related ministries and sectors, the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour, the People’s Committees of cities and provinces, and political and social organizations to build plans and effectively implement the National Programme on Labour Safety and Hygiene to 2010.

He asked the Ministry of Trade and Industry to boost supervision of key construction and mines, and asked the Ministry of Construction to assure labour safety for civil and industrial construction site.

The PM asked the Ministry of Transport to ensure labour safety during the construction of roads and bridges, especially those bearing heavy traffic.

He asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment to co-ordinate with ministries, sectors, People’s Committees of cities and provinces to monitor the granting of business licenses for the exploitation of natural resources and minerals.

He asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to co-ordinate with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to complete the organization of labour inspectors at the central agencies and localities so as to meet the State’s management demands for labour safety.

A ceremony to launch the National Week for Labour Safety, Hygiene, and the Prevention of Fires and Explosions was held on Sunday in the northen province of Phu Tho with the participation of Vice-president Nguyen Thi Doan, National Assembly Vice-Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong and Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affair Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.-Enditem
