Conference focuses on information security

19/03/2008 -- 8:50 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – Information technology experts say network security for Vietnamese government and organisations alike is becoming increasingly crucial for the country as it integrates into the international economy. Speaking at an international network and data security conference held in Ha Noi on March 19, Bach Khoa Internetwork Security Centre reported that last year more than 80 percent of local agencies and business websites were at risk of being attacked.

They said more than 33 million computers were infected with viruses, causing a total loss of up to 2.4 trillion VND (150 million USD).

Last year, IT and communication in Viet Nam boomed and this year it continues to enjoy a high growth rate, holding strong potential for development.

Deputy Minister of Public Securities Dang Van Hieu said the two-day conference, dubbed Security World Viet Nam 2008, is a vital opportunity to assess Viet Nam ’s potential and put forth appropriate measures in network security and data protection in the country.

After a decade of internet services, the country now has more than 5 million internet subscribers and 18.2 million regular users, accounting for nearly 21 percent of the total population.

The Security World Viet Nam conference aims to bring together government, organisations and experts in implementing IT and communication where information security is an important factor.

Along with the conference, an exhibition showcasing security control, alarm equipment and advanced cameras is being held.-Enditem
