Paris (VNA) – General Director of Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Nguyen Quoc Uy, who is also Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National UNESCO Committee, has attended the 26th session of the Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) in Paris, France.
The session, part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), drew representatives from 39 member nations.
This is the first time Vietnam took part in IPDC activities as an official member after the country was admitted to the IPDC intergovernmental council at the 34 th session of the UNESCO General Assembly in October, 2007.
During the two-day working session, participants focused their discussion on issues relating to communication development, emphasising the rights to access to information of people, diversification of kinds of information, safety for journalists.
They discussed measures to enhance effectiveness of IPDC-funded communication development projects. The IPDC is the only multilateral forum in the UN system designed to mobilise the international communication to discuss and promote media development in developing countries.
The IPDC funded 10 projects on communication development worth more than 200,000 USD to Vietnam in the 2002-2007 period.-Enditem
