ASEAN central bankers meet in Da Nang

Da Nang (VNA) – The 16 th ASEAN Central Bank’s Deputy Governors’ Meeting opened in Da Nang on March 31, hosted by the Ministry of Finance.

The meeting is part of the 12 th ASEAN Finance Minister’s Meeting.

Highlights of the meeting included discussion on the roadmap for monetary and financial integration of ASEAN.

Capital market development, capital account liberalisation and liberalisation of financial services were also on the agenda.

Results of the discussions at the meeting and another of the ASEAN+ 3 (China, Japan and the Republic of Korea) Finance and Central Bank Deputies Governors will be submitted later this week to the ASEAN finane ministers.

The finance ministers of 10 ASEAN countries, together with ASEAN General Secretary, will assess the policies on the basis of the global and regional economy.

The meeting will also welcome the president of the World Bank, the governors of the central banks of Brunei, Thailand and Vietnam , and the president of the Asian Development Bank.

The ASEAN finance ministers meet every year. Vietnam, one of the founder-countries, was the chairman of the meeting held in Hanoi in 1999.

Since 1998, ASEAN has held an annual summit with its Plus 3 partners, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea.

The finance ministers continue to attempt to strengthen the regional financial system, as well as develop an effective, in-depth financial market to promote sustainable economic growth.

The effort now focuses on carrying out the International Roadmap till 2020 in developing capital markets, liberalising capital accounts, financial services and monetary cooperation, and promoting policy dialogues at ministerial level.

They are also cooperating in other fields such as insurance, tariff and customs.-Enditem
