Hanoi (VNA) – The Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Van Phong and a ministry delegation concluded a four-day working visit to Germany on April 2.
On April 1, Phong met with his German counterpart Annette Schavan to review scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries and work out future cooperation plans.
During the meeting, the two sides said they were pleased with their effective cooperation, highlighting achievements in research and training in bio technology, water and environment, materials, and information technology.
In looking to the future, Germany and Vietnam agreed to focus on training Vietnamese scientists, cooperation between Vietnamese and German science and technology universities, and the application of German high-technologies in Vietnam .
They also agreed to work out measures to improve exploited mines and clean-up lakes, noting past achievements in waste water treatment and safe water supply in densely populated areas and polluted craft villages.
Since 2000, Germany has helped train 15 Vietnamese biotechnology doctors and dozens of science and technology doctoral and masters candidates. The two countries have exchanged hundreds of science and technology experts.
Additionally, several research projects in technology, information, telecommunications and materials have been applied.
Vietnam has prepared to work out policies to encourage the transfer of sourced technology and boost cooperation in the field.
During the visit, Minister Phong visited the Berlin University of Technology, the Dresden University of Technology, the Gelsenwasser AG water treatment group, the Roth & Rau AG solar battery group, and the Fraunhofer FOKUS telecom technology research and application group.-Enditem
