Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam is on the right track in ensuring food hygiene and safety, according to an official of the World Bank.

At a ceremony where WB lent support to Vietnam’s “Action month for food hygiene and safety” in Hanoi on April 7, the WB coordinator for rural development and natural resource management programme Severin Kodderitzsch commented that the Vietnamese regulators’ capacity in food hygiene and safety checks and supervisions have been much improved.

According to Tran Dang, Head of the Food Hygiene and Safety Department, Vietnam attaches importance to food safety and hygiene, demonstrating by the issuance of a directive on strengthening food safety and hygiene control in 1999 by the Prime Minister, the Food Hygiene and Safety Ordinance in 2003 and the PM’s approval last year of a national programme on the issue for the 2006-2010 period.

Following the Prime Mnister’s directive, the Ministry of Health launched an action month for food hygiene and safety quality every year to raise people’s awareness on the issue.
