Severe acute diarrhoea hits 12 provinces, cities

Hanoi (VNA) – The head of the Preventive Medicine and Environment Department has affirmed that severe acute diarrhoea epidemic has hit 12 provinces and cities nationwide.

The department’s head Nguyen Huy Nga said that the affected localities are Hanoi, northern Hai Phong port city and the northern provinces of Ha Tay, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Vinh Phuc and Hai Duong; and the central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Quang Binh.

The country reported almost 400 severe acute diarrhoea cases between March 6 and April 2, 85 of which were tested positive to vibrio cholera virus.

The sources of infection are different from the two previous outbreaks and most of the patients ate raw vegetables, shrimp paste and street food.

Hanoi was once again the first place hit by the outbreak this time with almost 200 people infected, including 44 positive cases.-Enditem
