Food hygiene quality and safety month launched

Hanoi (VNA) – A Month of Action for Food Hygiene Quality and Safety 2008 was launched in Hanoi on April 12.

At the launching ceremony, Health Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu, who doubles as Head of the Steering Committee on Food Hygiene Quality and Safety, stressed that this year’s campaign will focus on preventing infectious diseases on the digestive system.

He reviewed the past decade’s achievements in ensuring food hygiene quality and safety, and raising awareness of both authorities and the public about the issue, under the directive of the Prime Minister.

Setting up effective coordination between relevant ministries and agencies, finalising legal documents on food safety and hygiene, as well as enhancing food safety and hygiene inspection, helping to prevent and handle many violation cases, were among results of note, he said.

However, the minister warned that food poisoning remains a serious problem.-Enditem
