All systems go for satellite ground control

Hanoi (VNA)- Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Tran Duc Lai said Vietnam ’s satellite ground control station is ready to connect with the country’s first satellite Vinasat 1.

Vinasat 1 is scheduled to rocket from the Kourou launching pad in French Guyana on April 19 and will be managed from the ground control station in Vietnam ’s northern Ha Tay province’s Que Duong district.

During a visit to the Que Duong station on April 17, Minister Lai heard reports from the technical team and its chief egineer Hoang Thang, checked infrastructure and conducted a final test-run of the station facilities.

The mnister, who is also a member of the National Steering Board for the Satellite Project, concluded the control station is ready to follow satellite positions and process electrical and mechanical indexes to manage its operations in space.

The station has been built, equipped and examined by Vietnamese experts and satellite specialist group Lockheed Martin.

All personnel manning the station have undergone intensive training and held internships in US and Belgium stations where satellites similar to the Vinasat 1 are controlled.

In addition to the main Que Duong station, the country boasts a sub-station in southern Binh Duong province.-Enditem
