Da Nang hosts software workshop

19/04/2008 -- 9:25 PM

Da Nang (VNA) – The Business Software Alliance (BSA) in cooperation with the Supreme Court, the Copyright Office of Vietnam and the Judicial Training School held its third training workshop for judges on April 18 in central Da Nang city.

According to the BSA Asia director of anti-piracy firm Tarun Sawney, software copyright infringements are prevalent in Vietnam , yet the number of cases brought to the courts remains low.

The light penalty is also thought to be not enough to deter violators.

Moreover, Vietnamese judges lack experience in dealing with copyright infringements, making their rulings ineffective.

The workshop aims to provide the judiciary with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle software copyright infringement cases. It offered judges an opportunity to access the latest information on copyright, especially software copyright, so as to tackle infringements more effectively.-Enditem
