First group test of locally-made H5N1 vaccine

19/04/2008 -- 9:28 PM

Hanoi (VNA) – Thirty students of the Military Medical Institute have volunteered for human test of a locally-produced H5N1 influenza vaccine.

They received their first shot of the vaccine on April 19 and will take the second shot after 28 days.

This is the first group test of the vaccine, which is produced by the Bio-technology Products Company No. 1 of the National Hygiene and Epidemiology Institute.

All 300 students of the Military Medical Institute are scheduled to take part in the human test of the H5N1 influenza vaccine in May.

Earlier, the first human test conducted on 10 researchers, who have involved directly in the H5N1 influenza vaccine production project, proved successful.

According to the World Health Organisation, a dose of influenza type A (H5N1) vaccine will be effective with two injections of 1ml each and the 2 nd injection is given 28 days after the first.

The Health Ministry and the State Science and Technology Council agreed in principle to tests of the made-in-Vietnam H5N1 vaccine on humans after a successful testing on animals.

Five people have been confirmed dead from the H5N1 virus in Vietnam since the beginning of the year.-Enditem
