Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s successful launch of its first telecommunication satellite hit the headlines of newspapers in Hong Kong, China immediately after it happened on April 19.
The launching of Vinasat-1 satellite into orbit is a landmark of critical significance for the socio-economic development of Vietnam, the “Sing pao” newspaper said on April 20.
Vinasat-1 will be put into use by the end of May this year and will allow enterprises and organisations in telecommunications, broadcasting, television, police and army to have access to telecommunications services at competitive charges.Vinasat-1 will also be used to offer public utilities, especially basic telecommunication services to remote areas.
The paper remarked on the stark contrast between Vietnam’s robust economic growth rates in the last 10 years, which average above 7 percent, and its underdeveloped telecommunication infrastructure. It noted that until now telecommunication services providers in Vietnam still had to hire information satellites of Australia , Thailand and Russia.
Algeria’s “Le Quotidien d’Oran” newspaper also ran an article highlighting the event’s significance.
Vinasat-1 will bring telecom, Internet and television services to people in remote, mountainous areas and islands, helping Vietnam gradually bridge the current gap of growth among urban and rural areas across the country.- Enditem
