· Registration for university entrance exams: IT loses value in the eye of students (Tien phong, No. 112, page 1). The fact is reflected by the decreased number of students who applied to take entrance exams for IT major at universities.

· Halting three groups of public investment projects (Dau tu [Investment], No. 48, page 3). Finance Minister Vu Van Ninh said the government is determined to reduce public investments to curb inflation.

· More than 14,000 billion VND for National Highway 1A (Dau tu, No. 48, page 4). Sustainability and large amount of investment are the top issues of concern. Talks with Ngo Quang Dao, Vice Director of the Road Department.

Liberty Insurance Company General Director Thomas O’Dore said foreign firms will create new air in Vietnam ’s insurance market.

· Central seaports: impetus for development of economic zones (Cong Thuong [Industry and Trade], No. 7, page 7).

· Hue Festival 2008 with the theme “Cultural heritage with integration and development” scheduled to take place from June 2-11 will be “new, attractive and impressive,” affirmed Ngo Hoa, Deputy Chairman of the provincial Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee and head of the organising board (Cong Thuong, No. 7, page 17).

· Gold trading floor: a new playground for investors (Thoi bao Ngan hang [Banking Review], No. 48, page 6). A gold trading floor has made debut with the participation of five leading banks and 11 gold companies.

· Real estate market: “freezing” is temporary (Thoi bao Tai chinh Viet Nam [Vietnam Financial Times], No. 47, page 15). Property managers and traders said that the real estate market will be busy again due to the strong urbanisation and the move of labourers from rural areas to cities and from small cities to larger ones.
