Ethnic minorities and State to work towards further improvements

23/04/2008 -- 6:08 PM

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman has affirmed commitment to supporting work opportunities and development in ethnic minority-inhabited areas.

Speaking to a delegation from northern mountainous Hoa Binh province in Hanoi on April 23, NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong said support would be provided to remove difficulties in economic restructuring and to ensure food security in the region.

The chief legislator said he hoped the provincial people would continue nurturing their unique traditions and effectively implementing Party, State and provincial policies.

The Hoa Binh delegation thanked the Party and State for their support in improving the living standard for ethnic groups in Hoa Binh province.

They suggested the Party and State devise more policies to help remote and mountainous disadvantaged regions’ economic development, create opportunities for ethnic specialists and provide vocational training and jobs for farmers affected by land reclamation for industrialisation.

Although 65 percent of its total acreage are hills and mountains and 72 percent of its population are ethnic minority groups, the local people’s life in Hoa Binh province has improved with its economic growth rate of 13.8 percent higher than the country’s average. The entire province is now connected to roads and the national power grid.-Enditem
