PM signs decree to protect consumers

26/04/2008 -- 8:41 PM

Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has signed a decree intended to reinforce an ordinance designed in April 27, 1999 to protect consumers.

Decree 55/2008/ND-CP, signed on April 24, says: “Protecting consumer rights is the responsibility of the entire society.”

The ordinance prohibits business and individuals from introducing rules and regulations that are contrary to the law and says both must inform consumers about the goods and services they offer and strictly follow labeling rules.

The six chapter and 36-article decree says that any complaint from consumers must be settled within seven days.

Settlement must be within three days in an emergency.

Complainants should be informed of the results in writing or any other mutually agreed form.

Complainants have the right to go to court if they are not satisfied.

The decree also defines the Government’s responsibility to protect the rights of consumers.

The decree will come into effect 15 days after it is published in the gazette and overrides Decree 69/2001/ND-CP of October 2, 2001.-Enditem
