China’s train collision kills at least 66

28/04/2008 -- 4:10 PM

Beijing (VNA) – A train collision in east China’s Shandong province on April 28 killed at least 66 people and injured 247, confirmed local railway authorities.

The train from Beijing, coded T195, derailed in the city of Zibo and sent about 10 carriages toppling into a ditch, China’s Xinhua news agency said. The derailed train also caused train 5034 to veer off its tracks.

The city government of Zibo has sent a 1,500-member strong team to help the victims' families. Nine hotels and 34 rescue centres have been reserved for the victims' families.

This is the second major railway accident in Shandong this year. In January, a high-speed train from Beijing to Qingdao ran down a group of railway workers, leaving 18 dead and nine others injured.-Enditem
