Koumintang Honorary Chairman arrives in Beijing

Beijing (VNA) - Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Nationalist Party, or Kuomintang (KMT), Lien Chan arrived in Beijing on April 28 in advance of an Olympics-related ceremony on April 29, local media reported.

Jia Qinglin, member of the Chinese Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, met with chairman Lien and KMT Vice Chairman Lin Feng-cheng in the afternoon of the same day.

The Chinese diplomat spoke highly of Lien's outstanding contribution in promoting the relationship between the CPC, the KMT and the cross-strait relations, as well as his role in fighting secessionist activities.

He expressed his hope that the compatriots of the two banks would work together more closely to open up a new chapter for the peaceful development of the cross-strait relations.

Chairman Lien promised to spare no efforts to safeguard the peaceful development of the cross-strait relations. –Enditem
