Vietnam exports 1.38 million tonnes of rice

HCM City (VNA) – Vietnam has so far this year exported 1.38 million tonnes of rice, worth over 593 million USD, up 7.8 percent in volume and 60.7 percent in value over the same period last year.

Nguyen Thi Nguyet, General Secretary of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), said at a meeting on April 29 that the country expects to export an additional 650,000 tonnes of rice in May and June. By year-end, the country’s export volume may reach 3.5-4 million tonnes.

Asia is now the largest market of the Vietnamese rice, accounting for nearly 57 percent of the country’s total export volume. It is followed by Africa, 21 percent; America , 12 percent and the Middle East , 8 percent.

The price of Vietnam ’s export rice increased by 200 USD per tonne in April, said VFA President Truong Thanh Phong.

Mekong Delta provinces have basically completed harvesting the winter-spring crop with an estimated yield of 9.3 million tonnes.-Enditem
