RoK donates malaria medicine to DPRK

02/05/2008 -- 11:40 AM

Seoul (VNA) – The Republic of Korea (RoK) will provide anti-malaria supplies worth 1.18 million USD to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), the RoK Unification Ministry said on May 2.

The RoK will purchase the supplies, including preventive drugs and insecticides, from the government-civilian fund for boosting inter-Korean cooperation programmes and deliver them to the Pyongyang office of the World Health Organisation.

The RoK has supported malaria-prevention efforts in the DPRK since 2001, according to Yonhap news agency.

The number of malaria patients in the DPRK has dropped sharply from about 300,000 in 2001 to just 7,436 last year.-Enditem
