· Karl Marx’s 190 th birthday (May 5) marked: Marxism and the victorious development of Vietnam ’s revolution (Nhan dan, page 1).

Socio-economic Affairs
· Rice price in Ho Chi Minh City returned normal (Nhan dan, page 1).
· Building the biggest water reservoir in Central Highlands Lam Dong province (Quan doi Nhan dan). The 110ha lake will contain 13.96 million cu.m.
· Central Highlands Dak Lak province spends more than 11 billion VND on helping disadvantaged ethnic minorities (Quan doi Nhan dan, page 4).
· Planning a system of universities and colleges in order to meet the country’s human resource training demands (Nhan dan, page 5). The Prime Minister has approved a project on planning a university and college system for the 2006-2010 period.
· Hanoi police brought to light a group of foreigners involving in stealing monies from those who have just left banks (Cong an Nhan dan [People’s Police], No. 1010, page 9).
· Support for farmers and agriculture – Vietnam ’s commitments to WTO (Thoi bao Ngan hang Vietnam [Vietnam Banking Time], No. 53, page 6). According to the country’s commitments to the WTO, the Vietnamese State is able to grant subsidy equal to 10 percent of its agriculture output value. In fact, it has to date given only 3-5 percent or 260 million USD per year to agriculture.
· Gold price continues to go down though it is still higher than that in the world (Thoi bao Kinh te Vietnam [Vietnam Economic Time], No. 106, page 1). The gold price slipped to below 17.8 million VND per tael on the last days of April and early May from the mark of 18 million VND.
· Vietnam Asset Management Ltd (VAM) will continue investing in the stock market in Vietnam , said VAM Director General Nguyen Xuan Minh (Thoi bao Kinh te Vietnam , No. 106, page 8).
· Upbeat signals in national economy: priority continues to be given to curbing inflation (Thoi bao Kinh te Vietnam , No. 104-105, page 1). Socio-economic performance in the first four months showed positive changes, with optimistic signals coming from industry, exports, and consumer price index.
